players

M2 PRESSWIRE-9 January 1998-MATSUSHITA: Matsushita launches world's smallest portable DVD players
(C)1994-98 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD

DVD continues to change the way people watch movies as Matsushita Electric Industrial Co., Ltd. (Matsushita), known for
its Panasonic, Technics, and National brand products, introduces the world's smallest portable DVD players, including the
world's first portable DVD player with LCD screen. Weighing only 910 grams, the Panasonic DVD-L10 features a built-in
5.8-inch LCD screen with a wide 16:9 aspect ratio for portable viewing of DVD titles. The DVD-L10 will be available
February 10 in Japan at a price of 150,000 Japanese yen. A second portable DVD player without LCD screen (DVD-P10)
will be available on March 1 in Japan with a price of 79,800 Japanese yen. Combined monthly production of the two models
will be 6,000 units. The DVD-L10 will be introduced in the US market in early Spring 1998 for a suggested retail price of
US$1,299.95; introduction in other overseas markets is planned for Spring 1998.

Perfect for traveling, the new portable player with LCD lets viewers enjoy most full-length movies without interruption thanks
to a nickel metal hydride battery allowing 135 minutes of playback (DVD-L10). Small and light enough to be easily carried,
both DVD players afford viewing flexibility and save space, making them an attractive addition to home theater solutions.

The DVD-L10 player can switch between standard 4:3 and wide 16:9 aspect ratios at the touch of a button. Both models
feature more than 500 lines of horizontal resolution and benefit from a 10-bit video DAC (digital-to-analog) converter, which
virtually eliminates video noise and maximizes picture quality. A 96 kHz, 24-bit audio DAC converter gives both players
outstanding sound.

Graphic on-screen menu icons make navigating the DVD player features and functions -- such as language selection, title,
elapsed time and chapter search -- easy and fast. S-Video and composite video outputs allow connection to a TV for home
viewing, and a full wireless remote is included for convenience and versatility.

Two-way power operation adds to the DVD-L10's flexibility. Besides the rechargeable battery, an AC adapter provides
power in the home and serves as a battery recharger. As a basic DVD feature, both portable players can play audio CDs and
Video CDs in addition to DVD discs.

Established in Osaka, Japan in 1918, Matsushita Electric Industrial Co., Ltd. is one of the world's leading producers of
electronic and electric products for consumer, business and industrial use. Consolidated annual sales for the fiscal year ended
March 31, 1997 reached a record 7,675.9 billion yen (US $61.90 billion). Matsushita has more than 265,000 employees
worldwide, with overseas operations that include over 200 companies in 46 countries. Matsushita's products are marketed
worldwide under the Panasonic, Technics, Quasar and National brand names.
