Democrats DO claim to have God on their side all the time. Hillary, Obama, and Nancy Pelosi come to mind as people who have claimed they're acting on their religious beliefs.

And how does an atheist get off by claiming some policy or other is godly?

As for Democratic policies, many of them are hell on the poor. Green policies, for example, raise costs and impede job creation. Lax law enforcement gives ghetto residents an unsafe environment to live in and chases jobs out of neighborhoods.
