Clinton was not completely aware of the severity of the crisis when he said, "oh, it's just a 'glitch'." However, he corrected himself the next day, apparently after having been brought up to date by his aides.

Regarding impeachment proceedings, I have heard about that in August and again in November. But I doubt very much that will get off the ground as the President has succeeded in doing a number of things for the people and he is kinda popular at this time.

I read elsewhere on SI (World Outlook thread) that the Japanese have no confidence in their government at this time and also that, as a people, unlike the S. Koreans, they are rather passive. That is why it seems they are taking forever to put their economy in order. However, it is generally believed that once they get going, they will get lots of things done mighty pdq!!!

I think the Japanese govt. will very likely grant yet more tax cuts so that their people will have more money to spend and thereby help stimulate their economy.
