>> Reagan nearly tripled the debt. He did not balance the budget.
He had to rebuild the military. No doubt about that. And he did what he had to do to win the Cold War. It was a small price to pay (just like WWII expenditures by FDR were).
But you should, and clearly do not, understand that our nation's debt comes essentially from two places:
1) We have spent $22 Trillion on the "War on Poverty" which has failed. Reduction in poverty is primarily through capitalism, which causes companies to innovate, hire, and create products that are in demand rather than those ordered by government. As a result, the poor have cheap goods like cell phones, cable TV, air conditioning, and other former niceties that are now seen as essential.
2) SS, Medicare, Obamacare, and pensions (private guaranties and government) have left the country about $100 Trillion in the hole. Unable to meet its commitments, all commitments that began life as liberal social programs. This pending 100 Trillion dollar nightmare is upon us over the coming decade, and not one aspect of it is a Republican initiative. Not one. |
