ANT, it's not so much that the boys hold them back as the girls are self-limited by postponing until too late the necessary cognitive development. << Push the girls ahead of the boys in math and science or the boys will permanently hold them back >> Boys who miss their developmental opportunities are also stuck with what they got.

Developing brains get one chance. Nobody turns into Einstein when they are 30. They have to get there before puberty and in their late teens.

Girl brains [on average] are full grown 3 years before boys [on average]. So unless they get the timely development input, they turn into old dogs without having learned the new tricks.

Unfortunately for girls who want to be world-leading intellects, nature has dictated that their brain development was truncated because popping out babies was rated more important by evolutionary pressures for girls than boys. So males are top of all cognitive championships. They got another 3 years. That's a huge advantage.

Facts of life. Good or bad. Liked or not.
