To think one can get a first class education strictly online is a ridiculous notion. A major portion of an education is learning to create relationships, working with others in teams, and making serendipitous discoveries via inspirational educators.

You can have more "inspirational educators" online than you ever can at the traditional university. Not everyone can attend Harvard or MIT. But they can get the coursework online.

For nothing. I've done a number of online courses and I have to say they are at least as good as any I've ever had.

I understand the need for social experiences but those may need to be found in other ways. Locking people out of education (because of the insane cost) is not a good trade off for social experience.

Brick and Mortar universities are on the way out, just as record stores and Blockbuster video are no longer to be found. There will continue to be a few for those with money, but those wanting cost-effective education will need to learn to find it online. Courses that truly require one-on-one instruction (I have a friend who has a doctorate in piano pedagogy) will have to find other ways, which they will.
