I did a similar comparison with the PentiumII 300Mhz a month ago and found Dell right behind Gateway on Price, but looking carefully at what you get is important. The clear disappointment was the awlful
Compaq configuration guide on their web site and their ripoff on adding on additional memory. I was determined though and finally after
20-25 minutes gota close enough comparable and printed it out. It was over $300 more than Dell's,.in fact it was the highest priced system over Gateway, Dell, NEC, and Micron.
Now I know why you have to buy a preconfigured CPQ thru the channel,
the internet web site sucks.
If anyone is up for the challenge to do a config with the PentiumII 300Mhz, 64M sync, 6G drive, AGP graphics card, 24x cdrom, decient sound, 17" monitor,52k modem, and win95/office97prof,. Compare all the majors and see where the best value is at.
I think Dell will have the best pricing advantage if apples to apples.
