Meathead and all:

It would be useful to have some discussion on the thread of the impact of the AP situation on the US market. This is the dominating factor at this time and not the PC industry fundamentals which seem to be understood for last quarter.

The market reactions today seem to be due to the problems in Indonesia and earnings warnings which usually come out before the earning suprises. I believe the world reaction to the public panic in Indonesia is overblown and that this new issue will be dealt with over the next few days. The IMF seems to be short on brains and that is a worry. The guy heading it acknowledges that he does not fully understand what is going on and yet they are drying up credit in the country. This is a mistake in my view. They should make credit intelligently available in Indonesia. They need Greenspan and Rubin to help them do their thinking!

Barring further FUD panics in SEA and with some help from our brainier financial types, the IMF should be able to help Indonesia resolve its public confidence crisis. If this happens quickly, and before the announcement of the positive earnings suprises, we should see a brisk recovery in the Nasdaq and DOW stocks.

I am impressed by the resilence of DELL in this market. Its beat is now less than CPQ's beta. We should have real news coming soon to replace all the speculation and rumors that have been so abundant.
