I am talking about the human species in general. And education is as much about development of the mind and wisdom as it is about getting a job. That some people don't need formal education is not the point, most do. And community colleges, IMO, are as good as Ivy League universities. Learning is learning.

And universities will never be replaced I hope. It is better to learn in a group and have teachers who will assign work people seldom do on their own and help students understand e.g. abstract writers like James Joyce, or TS Elliot or Marshall McLuhan, or the ancient Greeks or existentialism. Most people shy away from higher order thinking unless pressed to do so.

It is important to know what the wisest people in the world have to say and how do you do that without teachers?

You follow Trump and FOX so you are a great example of a misused education. So whatever path you went down I would advise people to not go down that path-lol.

The university also provides an intellectual environment where students can discuss ideas with each other in the classroom and cafeteria. You get a synergistic benefit when everyone around you is learning at the same time.

I know the Republicans want to bring down the public school system, but they are just as wrong about this as everything else.

>> It is the whole ball game and folks like you who do not respect education are the ones who voted for Trump and too often have children that are failures because you refuse to educate them for one reason or another.

I can say that I have great respect for "education" but I have known many highly educated individuals for whom education wasn't a factor.

You should not assume that education is the key to success. There are many other factors that are far more important. Obviously, there are jobs you cannot do without education (physician) but there are also educations that don't bring you closer to important work.

Half of my education -- even graduate education -- was not worth the time or the money. The structuring of degree programs for "well rounded education" is a ripoff designed to maximize university revenue when the focus needs to be on usable skills.

Universities suck. I look forward to the day they're replaced with more efficient systems. And "tenure" becomes nonexistent.
