So, I agree with your semantics, but my point was to try and illustrate the reality behind the marketing. For someone to make the statement that switches don't look at each packet, routers do, is ludicrous and I tried to correct that misstatement.

Note that as a Bay engineer, I could go into Bay's strategies, but that wasn't the point of my message, I purposely left out product or company references.

Since you mentioned the routing blade in the 5000/5500 I do have a question for you. There are two scenarios for how a "routing blade" operates in a product. The first being that all routed packets go through the blade at all times. The second being that routed packets only go through the blade for initial route determination, subsequent packets are then forwarded directly.

Based on your statement, I gather the latter scenario applies to the 5000/5500, yes?
