California Olive Ranch also produces, in my opinion, horrible olive oil which is very high in phenols (essentially turpentine), the stuff that makes you involuntarily cough when you taste it. In large part this is because their trees are young.

Per usual advertising strategy they promote the idea that olive oil with phenols is "high quality".

If you prefer fruity flavored olive oil without phenols you will want to order from a different California olive oil producer.
