You make an assumption about automation that is pure fantasy.

You can't argue that we need immigrants to do the work Americans won't do and argue we won't have any jobs because of automation at the same time. It is crazy thinking that frustrates the heck out of lots of people who want to support the democratic party but shake their heads over some of the thinking in the party. .............

Both the ideas are dead wrong! Americans will do the jobs democrats claim they won't if the jobs pay a living wage. AND automation is no different than the fear mongers always wringing their hands that the word is ending because of progress. It was the same claim made when we industrialized (wow!! any jobs created then?) and same argument that computers would take away all our jobs (wow!! any jobs created by by that?).
