I upgraded to Sierra 10.13.1. I finally got the USB disk to run when I plugged it into my external USB port. My Thunderbolt is not working. It is connected to the back of the computer. The system report says it is connected, but is not shown on the desk top.
OK, so you're running High Sierra, not Sierra, just wanted to confirm. High Sierra was created to focus mainly on bug fixing, stability, and security without adding the many new features that new versions of MacOS get.
