... not exactly lost, because

(1) the tome was a compilation of other tomes, much of which survived,

(2) the tome gave rise to other tomes, by specialisation and interests, much of which survived, and

(3) much of the tomes are weaved into the DNA

so, mostly still knowledge-good, particularly the dark art-science of TCM (chinese traditional medicine) which big pharma can only try to suppress but not second or otherwise pilfer
