Neolib,
So why weren't you clamoring for the regular budget items that were spending the surplus for decades on things like the military to be reigned in?
I've always clamored for the regular budget items to be reigned in. I was one of many conservatives who voiced objections when Bush raised the deficit to $420B during the middle part of his administration. Even now, I question why we need to spend so much on the military. (That also goes along with my desire for foreign disengagement.)
There still is no problem with SS or MC.
The Social Security trust fund is a myth. Always has been. The government already spent that money and included the SS surpluses as part of overall revenues. Now those surpluses are gone, and the SS shortfall is being added onto the deficit.

That's a problem. Doesn't matter if you agreed with the accounting or not. (I sure didn't, but whatever.) Leaving SS as is isn't sustainable, especially as the number of retirees continues to grow.
