I don't get why set-top boxes, rented from cable companies, are the way to go?

Just like we used to have to rent cable boxes to get the cable channels--then the TV manufacturers made their TVs cable-ready.... If I were Microsoft, I'd be pushing on the TV companies to make their new sets "Web-ready," with WindowsCE, of course. Heck, Sony and Philips/Mag are already WebTV makers, so I'm sure they could be convinced--and then hopefully that gets the snowball rolling.

Anyway, the Sun deal doesn't necessarily stop CE from being the OS of choice, so although Microsoft doesn't get the whole pie, they're not totally devestated either...
