Yes - there is a MSDS for sand.

The pertinent point is:

Chronic: May cause cancer in humans. Prolonged exposure to respirable crystalline quartz may cause delayed lung injury/fibrosis (silicosis).

Imagine also accidentally breathing in while playing.
At least water clears out.

Sand may be more of a problem.
