Is it wise to take on another 10 or 15 years of responsibility given that the dog may very well outlive me?

I have wrestled with this very dilemma since losing Harris two years ago. Harris came to live with me after the death of my mother and his grief over the loss of my mother was so great that I had to hand feed him for over a month. Helping him deal with his grief helped me deal with mine. We became inseparable and losing him was devastating...the last living connection to my parents.

I wouldn't want to put another dog through that ordeal, though SmoothSail's suggestion has a lot of merit.

goldworldnet is fortunate to have a backup plan.

May we all (and our pets) live forever.
