12/22/2017 Contest update

Attention Biotechies: The 2018 Charity Contest Board is now up for portfolio submissions. The Contest submission deadline is Monday, 1/1/2018, Midnight, PST. Here’s the link to the 2018 Biotech Charity Contest board:

Subject 59918

The earlier portfolios are posted, the easier it is for me to set up the Contest spreadsheets.
Please help me publicize the 2018 Contest by posting the Contest info and link on boards & Twitter sites where biotechies hang out.

Although Republicans finally got “their” tax reform, the large-cap stock indexes barely budged for the week. However, investors in smaller-cap biotechs were in a more celebratory mood with the Contest median chalking up a decent gain.
At Friday’s close, the Contest median was up 44.28% YTD (vs. up 39.98% a week ago), the Nasdaq Biotech Index (NBI) was up 21.31% YTD (vs. up 20.70% a week ago) and the smaller-cap S&P Biotechnology Select Industry Index (SPSIBI), was up 43.35% YTD (vs. up 38.37% a week ago). The Nasdaq Composite Index (NCI) closed up 29.29% YTD (vs. up 28.86% a week ago).
It still looks like the Contest is headed for a photo finish! IMAN’s portfolio, up 131.88% YTD, has retaken the lead but second place KMASTR’s portfolio, up 130.58% YTD, is just a smidgen behind. Holding on to third place is GHMM’s portfolio, up 114.58% YTD.
At Friday's close, 45 of the 48 Contest portfolios remained in the green, with 36 still beating the NBI and 25 beating the SPSIBI.
The 195 Contest portfolio stock picks have an impressive average YTD gain of 36.50% but a median YTD gain of just 4.31%, with 107 of the 195 picks up for the year.
Below is the Top Ten list. Also below are the Top 5 & Bottom 5 Stocks for the week ranked by % Gained and % Lost YTD. (Prices not converted to US$ in these Tables.)
Portfolio adjustments: None.
(All corrections, especially adjustments for splits, greatly appreciated.)
Feliz Navidad!
Have a safe & fun penultimate 2017 Contest weekend biotechies!
Peace & good health,
Bulba
