This is the first Weekly update for the Canadian Fantasy stock portfolio

This update is not earthshaking as of yet as we are struggling to latch onto a few really good stocks. We have placed bids on Aphria (APH.TO), IBG Group (IBG.TO) and Andrew Peller ltd. Class A (ADW/A.TO) and been successful in buying the Andrew Peller shares so far.

Lets have a look at the portfolio as it stands now... remember... our seed money is $100,000.00 Canadian in the form of Monopoly money. These are pretend trades, though every effort is made to make them as real as possible. I announce the orders as to date and time. IF subsequently the share price passes through my buy or sell order then I will assume that the order has been filled. I DO NOT USE 20/20 HINDSIGHT.

here is the status of the portfolio as of Dec 22/17

Well we only got this stock on Friday and so far we have a tiny loss... that will be corrected by the end of next week.

22-Dec Buy 2000 shares of Andrew Peller Ltd. Class A [ADW/A.TO] @ $15.25/share ($30,500.00)

Available cash from buy/sell of stocks + accumulated dividends: $69,500.00

I am a great fan of choosing stocks with dividends. We will assume this is a tax sheltered account probably a TFSA so we don't have to worry about taxation on capital gains or dividends, even when funds are withdrawn from the portfolio.

ADW/A.TO is a dividend stock with a quarterly payout of $0.045/share or an annual payout of 1.81%. Not a large amount of money but it accumulates over time. Its ex-dividend date is Dec 28/17 so this means we bought it in time to collect the next dividend on Jan 5/18.

Limit Buy for 2000 shares of Aphria Inc [APH.TO] $14.00/share effective Dec 22/17 @8:00pm MST

Limit Buy for 3000 shares of IBG Group inc. [IBG.TO] @ $8.15/share effective Dec 21/17 @ 10:00am MST

Aphria is a pretty dynamic stock... it is in consolidation but you would not believe it if you look at its action. This is the second time I have raised the bid on this stock. Currently it is valued at over $15.00... surely there will be a pullback sometime next week... this order will stay in effect until late next week... then I will probably buy it at market on Dec 29

We almost had our bid for IBG Group filled yesterday... we came withing a few cents. I think this order will be filled next week

So there you have it... one good stock in the bucket and two more possibles.

Next post will be an interesting discussion on Gold and a Junior gold stock that is out performing major producers... such stocks can be takeover targets... that is a long post so I won't start it here.

Merry Christmas to all the lurkers of this thread

If you have any questions or Canadian stocks that you want a detailed reading on, please post your thoughts. I am only too happy to oblige.
