Hmmm, almost made a big mistake I think.

I received this email message
----
Thank you for using Paypal,

we will process your current transaction on 24 hour.
to see the full transaction details, please open the (pdf)
If this not you?you can cancel your order and follow the steps on pdf

thank you,

PayPal Service

-----

There was a file attached which looked like a pdf file, but I couldn't see the .pdf extension because the name was too long.

I am expecting a Paypal transaction to complete tomorrow, so I wasn't careful with this email.

I clicked on the attachment, it started to do something, then I thought "wait, maybe this is a scam, and I've just clicked on an attachment (exactly what you're not supposed to do)."

So I closed the browser tab by clicking on the X at the top of the tab. Everything seemed to stop,

When I looked again at the email message, the return address is a bunch of nonsense that doesn't look like Paypal.

----

So any suggestions for what to do now to make sure I haven't started some malicious attack thing? Nothing seems to have happened, but I did briefly click on an attachment from a scam email....
