A1, re the failures of industrial policy in S. Korea, see "Tight Little Island" in Jan 12 Forbes: forbes.com The article suggests that govt guarantees and directed industrial policy led the Korean chaebol to take ridiculous chances with borrowed funds. This, of course, is the theme Paul Krugman hits on in the " Economist" article. BTW, I thought that was a great link. Geoff
