I posted this on my new Home Remedies thread but thought it would also be appropriate here for those who diet...
A mostly plant based diet is very healthy, plant based doesn't mean vegetarian, it means mostly a plant based diet... this means a side of meat, fish, whatever, on your plate but not as the main thing on the plate... what we eat feeds our intestinal microbes, and there are literally billions of them, living in our gut... they thrive only on plant fiber and when they eat that fiber they produce an enzyme that circulates throughout the body which also resets out entire system including strengthening our immune system... so, we never eat alone, we're eating with and for those intestinal microbes...
In contrast, when our diet consists primarily of non plant or non fibrous materials, then these same microbes suffer and therefore produce a very different enzyme and that different enzyme weakens our immune system, and so on...
This is the real internal reason having lots of fruits and veggies daily is so important and so healthy for us, not just for the nutrients contained within them but they also provide important life sustaining food for our intestinal microbes that thrive on fiber and produce powerful enzymes that maintain and keep out body strong and in proper functioning order... and lots and lots of water...
