| | | Okay, some years ago when I was pushing 300 pounds and couldn't even walk to the corner without getting badly out of breath, I decided to do some reading... reading, but not anything written by nutritionists, the nutritionists are clueless and will tell you only what the latest fad may be... one day butter is bad for you and the next butter is good for you, they have no idea what they're talking about, so I completely threw away all nutritionists and dismissed them all as nuts cases...
I went to the library at the nearby college and began reading journal articles written by biophysicists, biochemists, and microbiologists... these are highly respected experts in the field on what makes our bodies work properly and why... all of them, while coming from different disciplines, were saying the same thing, e.g., eat more plants, drink more water...
One or two said that it only takes 16 days to change one's body chemistry and blood sugar levels dramatically simply by adding fruits and veggies to one's plate...
i decided to put that to the test... I was going to have my periodic fasting blood test in about 3 weeks forthcoming, so I decided to have melons, nuts, and cheese for breakfast, eggs every now and then, and also added a salad to my dinner...
I did that for 3 weeks and then went for my blood test... to make a long story short, my cholesterol was down significantly, my cholesterol was down dramatically, and my A1C was lower than it had been for years... all because of that slight change in my diet... I was floored and amazed and my doctor told me that whatever it was I should keep doing it!!!
I continued reading and began learning very detailed info regarding our relationship with plants, especially the edible plants, or I should say veggies...
In a previous post on this thread I explained how we have billions of intestinal microbes and that they only thrive on the fiber we eat... in turn, they produce an enzyme that strengthens not only our immune system but keeps us fit in so many ways...
You say you're addicted to carbs, that was my problem also before... the American diet leads to the typical metabolic syndrome, i.e., high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and diabetes... addicted is a very good choice of words here because carbs, especially bread carbs, literally turn into sugar or glucose when mixed with our saliva right in our mouth... it becomes sugar even before we swallow...
The human being is programmed to like sugar because the brain can get quick energy from sugar, therefore the neurological pathways when detecting sugar on our tongue makes us like it so we want to eat it in great quantity...
To fast forward for a moment, after losing the initial 80 pounds, my doctor took me off nearly all my meds including the diabetic meds, right now I only take a minimal med for my blood pressure but he may also stop that prescription soon... today, I can run for more than a hour without stopping or getting out of breath, I also box 3 times a week, 3 rounds of sparring each session...
Food is our best medicine...
Begin small and simple, just add fruits to your breakfast and a salad to your dinner, and also cut back on the amount of meat on that plate...
If I went into detail on everything here and now, then I would have to write a book... so, we can begin the dialogue from here with comments and questions...
I hope this was helpful, at least to start...
