I remember when Obama told Putin he'd "have more flexibility once he was re-elected". This is standard practice when you have different parties taking the reigns. The fact is that I agree with Trump. We need to find areas of mutual interest with both Russia and China and cool down the rhetoric with both. These are super powers and we should avoid war or proxy wars with them if at all possible. Escalating tensions with them through sanctions is something that we need to be careful with. Trump's instinct to improve ties with Russia are spot on. Even Hillary had that instinct, but she failed at the "reset" with Russia, just as she failed at most everything she tried to do.

Only idiotic warmongers think that the right course of action is to increase tensions with Russia and China. What we need to do is "walk softly, but carry a big stick". Let's engage in economic warfare and increase our wealth and share of the pie globally. Let's fight back against their economic and cyber espionage, instead of letting them steal all of our IP. Let's impose the same kind of trade deals on them that they impose on US companies. Let's engage in tit for tat and put America first on trade and political deals. That is the job of the President, not to give away our wealth and position to the rest of the world. That path has lead to the destruction of our wealth and standing in the world. It's one of the reasons I did not vote for Obama in his second term, even though I voted for him for his first term.
