News from betterchips.com.

"A lot of you are wondering if the K6-3D will be released with the 266MHz version, and I'm sorry to say, the answer is no. AMD is planning for the first K6-3D and K6-3D+ models to be released in the 300MHz and 333MHz processors. However, there is a bright side to this picture, these ULTRA fast processors will be available with in the next 1-2 months."

While I realize this guy has been shown to be optimistic in the past, thses are two very unequivocal statements:
1. The slowest speed version of the K6-3D will be 300 MHz
2. This processor will be available between February 10 and March 10.

Even if statement 2 is optimistic, statement 1 would indicate that the ultimate clock frequency of the K6-3D will extend to 400 or 450 MHz. The fact that there are no significant numbers of K6-3D's that can't run at 300 MHz is a very positive indicator about yields, certainly AMD's biggest problem in 1997.

It is apparent that the K6-3D is not just a K6 with 3D improvements, but that it was redesigned to operate at a higher clock frquency than the K6 as well. Another improvement in the K6-3D is much faster MMX (dual issue, but with lower overhead than Pentium II MMX).
