===From Raging Bull=== TITLE: Definition: Sales Out for Corel AUTHOR : Wisam Raad DATE: Friday, 2 January 1998, at 2:27 p.m.
I was according to one post "lurking" on the Silicon Investor and was directed to this site for posting. There seems to be some confusion about the latest quarter results in terms of "Sales Out". The Corel web-page has actually defined it:
In the software industry, sales tend to be referred to in two contexts. First, sales from the producer into the distribution channels. Second, sales from the distribution channels to the consumers. The expressions ‘sales-in' and ‘sales-out' are common terms. However, it has come to our attention that this terminology is not used consistently either from within or outside of the industry. Accordingly, we wish to clarify that the term ‘sales-out' used in this press release dated December 18, 1997, was in reference to our estimate of Corel's fourth quarter sales to our distributors.

I just noticed a whole lot of confusion with regards to this definition and I hope it helps. Actually, 'sales out' sounds like a baloney definition of revenue that they have "earned" for their financial statements. Pure and simple, if you have not sold it to a customer it doesn't count. ragingbull.com |
