Interesting article. There is a truth that it exposes, which is that there was something everyone prized in the past called civil discourse. People wanted an exchange of ideas and the protection under the law to express those ideas. Traditionally, that has meant those protections are extended to otherwise reprehensible speech such as speech by neo-nazi, racists, and satanists. We don't like that kind of speech, but we protect it. Those of us who don't like those ideas just avoid associating with those people and don't listen to what they have to say. But my generation stops there. We don't go so far as to shut them down completely, because in doing that, we put the noose around the neck of the kind of speech we DO want to be protected. Freedom comes with both good and bad. It's the challenge of staying free. Learning how not to throw the baby out with the bathwater is the hard part.
