the wealthy should not forget that they hit a little bit of a lottery to live in a time and a place where they could leverage the cumulative historical assets as well as current assets brought together by the collectives (the financial system, the judicial system, the government, the military, the media, utilities, transportation systems, and all).

Every one is living in the same era and under the same conditions you suggest. The difference between those who have or have not amassed fortunes, is a result of two things Ambition and Intelligence.

You could devide all the wealth on earth equally among the poplulation. Within a decade there would be wealthy and poorer segments among the people. As time carried on it would return to exactly where it is today.
That will never change no matter the country or political system in place. Through out history there have always been rich, poor and middle class.
