| | | Mindmeld, I agree with all of that, except your comment that it's ok for them to practice Sharia Law in our country, the US. Here, our laws are in direct contradiction to Sharia Law. I've heard this argument many times before, but I don't think this gives us an excuse to bypass the 1st amendment. I'll explain why below.
Sharia tells Muslims that their own religion and laws supercede that of their host country and that their first loyalty is to the Islamic religion and Umah, not to any citizenship they have in their host country. That is what makes Islam different. It conflates politics and religion. First of all, politics and religion are conflated all the time. Religious beliefs shapes one's world view, and politics will necessarily follow. The "wall of separation" between church and state only means that the state cannot act as the church and vice-versa.
Yeah, I get the fact that Sharia law thinks church and state should be one and the same. But I'll leave it to the practitioners of Sharia law to figure out how to exist in a country where church and state should be separated. If they can't figure it out, then yeah, I would tell them to GTFO.
But I have a suspicion that they will eventually figure it out. Or die trying.
They don't believe in separation of church and state and they use our separation against us. If we talk about it, then we are racist. All of our enlightenment has come to the point where we have hobbled our own defenses against another world view that is very barbaric compared to the Western liberal culture and world view. To make a long story short, I believe the most important institution in this country is the free market of ideas. I may not agree with what you believe in, but I'll defend your right to preach and practice it.
Modern day liberals don't believe in the free market of ideas. In that sense, they are not much different than the practitioners of Sharia law. Hence the very tools they use to silence the opposition will be the tools that empower Sharia law in this country.
Put another way, there are two ways to spread your ideas in this world. One is by using facts, logic, and moral reasoning. The other is by forcing what you believe in upon others. Liberals, of course, want to force what they believe in upon others, just like Sharia. You can see it on this thread, where liberals can never defend what they believe in, but instead resort to insults, lies, and spam to get their point across.
I have faith that Sharia law, in its current form, cannot survive without the force of government. We can fight hard to keep that force of government out of the hands of the Sharia practitioners without making it illegal to actually practice it. If they have a problem with that, tough.
