If the Berkeley administration canceled Y's speech that would be one thing, and it would be completely within their rights to do that. For example, I would also expect them to not entertain a speech by David Duke, the White Supremacist. There are some folks we should all just ignore.

However, and I'll keep repeating this until you get it, it is NOT ok for Berkeley professors and students to incite violence and burn the campus down in protest. That is not protected speech. That is called breaking the law. That is not engaging in productive change. The liberals are so consumed with hate at the rightward turn in this country, that they have become unhinged. The right way to have protested would have been to bring your concerns to the administration and see if they can rescind the invitation to speak. If that didn't work, then they could have created a peaceful counter protest outside the place of the speech. Or they could have invited liberal speakers to speak against Y. Or they could have simply boycotted the speech. Lot's of peaceful and legitimate ways to protest. But instead, they decided to commit crimes in protest. In this instance, the liberals turned everyone against them and lost their sympathetic cause. I call that being stupid on top of being criminal.
