Netscape's new regime includes a big loss, projected at as much as $89 million, and lay-offs. The restructuring means that in two of the last three quarters, Netscape will have lost money. The stock market, down due to concerns about the gloomy Asian economic picture, was also very unhappy with Netscape, knocking its stock price down to $18 or so. At that price, some suggest Netscape begins to look attractive as a takeover prospect for a company such as Oracle.

Oracle warns of possible shortfall
Oracle Corp Chief Executive Larry Ellison said Friday that, if the Asian economic crisisdragged on, it could cause the company to fall short of Wall Street's earnings expectations. "Our business is very solid, but that does not mean that, if we get whacked in Asia, we won't disappoint by a few cents," Ellison told Reuters in an interview at the Winter Consumer Electronics Show here. He declined to be more specific about which quarters might be affected. --Reuters
