Very positive excerpt from Fri., January 9th Dow Jones news release:

BOSTON -(Dow Jones)- The athletic footwear industry is expected to
report lackluster fourth-quarter results, reflecting a continuing swing to other casual styles...

Hardest hit were companies with large basketball shoe sales,
including the three largest athletic footwear manufacturers - Nike Inc. (NKE), Reebok International Ltd. (RBK) and Fila Holdings SpA (FLH)...

In suburbs, the rage is the "plain vanilla" look encapsuled by off-beat brands and preferred by skateboarders, surfers and snowboarders...

One company cashing in on the fashion switch is Vans Inc. (VANS), an
alternative brand with a growing skateboard following. Last month the
Orange, Calif.-based concern said earnings for its second fiscal quarter ended Nov. 29 rose 19% to $2.9 million, or 21 cents a share, from $2.4 million a year earlier. Sales increased 19% to $44.2 million from $37.1 million.

GO VANS! Ted
