Buckley was the Republican intellectual for sure. Today it is Ryan, which is a joke. Buckly was a racist early on, and engaged in psychobabble his whole life. If you go back and look at how he talked, he talked slowly and stumbled because he had to figure out how to defend the indefensible conservative ideology.
He did change his racist positions in later years but started out as a blatant racist.
