Hello Eric H.,

You asked: "I have listed what Novell's got. Where's your list of NT's assets?"

I say: Technology is not the issue. It is perception. But if it is assets you seek then here goes. To include just a few:

1) TCP/IP dependent (wave of the future)
2) Portable to RISC/Intel machines
3) Remote dial-in/dial -FREE
4) Internet/intranet software (release 4.0) -FREE
5) Compatability with workstation O/S less of an issue if any.
6) memory protection from mis-behaved software
7) UNIX printing -FREE
8) Integrates well with NW 3.x and NW 4.x (to certain degree)
9) Hugh third party support and growing
10) Large corporations are implementing NT into production...not just evaluating the technology. As more NT servers come on line, the higher the probability that staff will continue implementing NT servers as opposed to NW 4.x.
11) Directory services with next release of NT MAY put NW buyers on hold in anticipation of some "great" things to come.

We all know MSFT talks too much but then this is no different from what IBM did in the 70's and early '80's. Announce the "vapour" product first and put potential customers on a "hold". GREAT STRATEGY that works for he who has is the king. NOVL was in a similar position in the late 80's with NW 3.x. Everybody waited for the next 3.x regardless if IBM/MSFT came out with the next and greatest OS/2, Lan manager respectivly.

10) Least but not last, free exposer to advertising from the majority of developers/hardware manufacturers backing NT. DEC is betting heavly on NT (not necessarily a good idea since the Alpha is a very expensive machine)

Now, take a look at the stock price of the two companies over the last year and tell me that MSFT failed and NOVL won. MSFT almost up 100%. NOVL down 50%. B. Gates made an extra $1.9 billion on his investement.
B. Frankenburg along with other exec. left a company in turmoil.

Will NOVL make it ? I hope so but I do not see it due to sales of NEST technology. Not due to sales of NW 4.x. With intranet....maybe.
That is my opinion.
