Context, time in history. Jefferson and Washington had slaves.

Yet who would dispute that Jefferson was a liberal in his age? Or his greatness.

Lincoln was a liberal in his age. You cannot take one example and generalize to the entire person like that.

Many historians consider him our greatest president. So how does your comment fit it there?

Personally I think the greatest president rank is tied between FDR and Lincoln.
