Yes you have two champions of independent and libertarian thought. (Tabarrok-Independent; Marcadle-Libertarian) neither refuted what Jim Rickards stated in his article.

You have your opinion and I have mine.

These arguments are tantamount to arguing about the arrangement of the deck chairs on the sinking titanic.

Time will tell if you are correct or I. However, the banking system is not a sound as the past and even Marcadle stated that reserves in commercial banks should have been higher.

However, the problem with that thought is you could never raise enough reserves on the commercial side to offset the risks on the investment side. Reserves grow at a paltry pace but securitization grows at a exponential pace.

Is there any wonder that Warren Buffet has referred to derivatives as "Financial Weapons of Mass Destruction?"

If we use your reasoning then you are saying our banking system is sound and there is "nothing to see here, move along", and I am saying that couldn't further be the truth. 2008 isn't over, we are on pause and we shall soon see if recombining commercial banks and investment banks is a good idea.
