It appears that way. We are at the bottom of the consumer
buying cycle for computer-related products, so analysts are
extrapolating current conditions into 1997. This is hardly
reasonable, but you can't stop this psychology. Luckily,
this psychology is alterable and tends to be short-term.

What is more irritating is that the analysts cannot distinguish
between companies that are driven by the mass consumer market and
companies that provide the technology to keep businesses competitive
and more efficient. This is a mindset that analysts just can't
seem to break. Lumping true technology companies like LRCX and AMAT with consumer companies like Micron, Cirrus, and Compaq (which are
basically commodity companies) is simply erroneous.
