1/19/2018 Contest update
The MLK holiday week witnessed some stormy moments for both the president and Contest portfolios. I don’t know about the president but the spreadsheets I keep for our Contest show portfolios wound up the week relatively unsoiled.
At Friday’s close, the Contest median was up 7.91% YTD (vs. up 8.28% YTD a week ago), the Nasdaq Biotech Index (NBI), was up 4.99% YTD (vs. up 4.95% YTD a week ago), the smaller-cap S&P Biotechnology Select Industry Index (SPSIBI), was up 4.89 % YTD (vs. up 5.73% YTD a week ago), with the Nasdaq Composite Index (NCI), up 6.27% YTD (vs. up 5.18% YTD a week ago).
Our new Contest leader is JULIUS’ portfolio, up 19.27% YTD, with ARTHUR’s portfolio, up 18.14% YTD taking second place and TUCK’S portfolio, up 17.63% YTD, moving to third place.
At Friday's close, 59 of the 62 Contest portfolios were in the green, with 48 beating the NBI and the same 48 beating the SPSIBI.
The 230 Contest stock picks have an average YTD gain of 7.60% and a median YTD gain of 4.67%.
Below is the Top Ten list. Also below are the Top 5 & Bottom 5 Stocks for the week ranked by % Gained and % Lost YTD. (Prices not converted to US$ in these Tables.)
(I rarely have anything to brag about in the Contest, but at Friday’s close my portfolio was the sole holder of the week’s & year’s top gaining Contest stock pick, PMN.TO. That, in my view, easily makes up for the fact that two of the week’s top 5 losers, OMER & ZSAN, were also in my portfolio. ;~))
