Coca-Cola also said Friday it wants to make bottles with an average of 50% recycled material by 2030. Coca-Cola uses a variety of materials, including glass bottles, aluminum cans and paper cups, but said plastic, which has come under the most scrutiny, is its biggest area of focus.
I await a description of that "focus".

How Coke is spending its green to get greener:
2009????
• $44 million will go toward construction of the 30-acre recyling plant being built in conjunction with United Resource Recovery Corp. It will add up to 50 jobs to the city of Spartanburg, open next year and be in full operation in 2009. The plant is expected to produce 100 million pounds of recycled plastic annually or the equivalent of 2 billion, 20-ounce bottles.

United Resource Recovery Corporation

We are the world-leader in transforming waste bottles into new bottles.

United Resource Recovery Corporation (URRC) recycles plastic food and beverage containers made of polyethylene terephthalate (“PET”) using a patented manufacturing process. PET is the plastic material used to make most soft drink bottles.

URRC’s technology, called the UnPet process, makes a low cost, high quality reclaimed PET chip resin. Our product is suitable for use in food packaging containers, under the Food and Drug Administration’s specifications.

Over six billion bottles have been produced from material processed at URRC’s plant and subsequently delivered to the consumer.

We are about the future of packaging. We hope you'll join us.
