Almost certainly climate change. Which would explain why agriculture and civilization popped up in so many places at the same time. It became practical. And that implies that our ancestors were already doing a certain amount of farming before on a more seasonal basis. When they no longer had to migrate as the seasons moderated, they already were prepped for it.
