Why is that? Countries break up all the time when regional interests diverge too much. Why don't you look at countries that have had to endure forced marriages for too long and see how they fared. Anyway, the US was never conceived as a single monolithic nation but as a collection of aligned states. And that is where we are headed back to. A very small federal government and loosely aligned states.
