I liked the laughing Belichek photo for a completely other reason ... truth is it was part 1 of a massive screwup on my part, I was planning to reverse my pick at the last moment, and was attempting to channel Belichek in doing so. A mind game. That I screwed up.
I looked for the game start time, saw 3:40 PDT, thought "Cool, I have plenty of time to change it." (This would be part deux for those keeping track; I shoulda double-checked that start time) Then, just before my kid's 2:20 basketball game I checked the web Just. In. Case. Saw the Pats-Jags were already in the 3rd quarter, and the Jags were up. Thought to myself, "I'm looking pretty smart here, and no one need ever know I. Screwed. Up." Then the Jags hit a field goal early in the 4th and went up 20-10. And I thought to myself, "naw, the reason the Pats took my Seahawks in SB49 was because my 'Hawks defense ran out of players 'cause they kept getting taken down, and right now with Gronk gone and Brady (probably? maybe?) hurtin', surely something like that can't happen again, can it?
But I knew, deep in my gut, that it could. And then it did.
So his Belichekness got his revenge after all. But not at all in the way I'd envisioned.
OK, truth is I prolly woulda fessed either way, the only difference being if the Jags had held on I would be looking a lot smarter than I really am just now. And it wasn't a terrible pick, and next week I might just do something almost as screwy, not that it'll matter.
