On a per-share basis, the Basel, Switzerland-based company said it had profit of 84 cents. Earnings, adjusted for non-recurring costs, came to $1.20 per share. The results beat Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of three analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of $1.16 per share. The drugmaker posted revenue of $12.92 billion in the period. For the year, the company reported profit of $7.7 billion, or $3.25 per share. Revenue was reported as $49.11 billion. Novartis shares have risen nearly 4 percent since the beginning of the year. The stock has risen 24 percent in the last 12 months.
