2/2/2018 Contest update
No secret memo was needed this week to reveal that the state of the stock market is not strong. And our beloved biotechs were caught in the rush to the exit.
Why today’s crash? Ominously, Friday’s Dow point drop was 666! Makes one wonder whether the purported explanation for the stock plunge, investor fear of future inflation and much higher interest rates, is the whole story.
Meanwhile, at Friday’s close, the Contest median was up 10.16% YTD (vs. up 16.24% YTD a week ago), the Nasdaq Biotech Index (NBI), was up 5.13% YTD (vs. up 10.67% YTD a week ago), the smaller-cap S&P Biotechnology Select Industry Index (SPSIBI), was up 8.25% YTD (vs. up 13.49% YTD a week ago), with the Nasdaq Composite Index (NCI), up 4.89% YTD (vs. up 8.73% YTD a week ago).
Riding the CASC buyout rocket, RKRW’s portfolio, up a breathtaking 33.66% YTD, burst into the Contest lead, with STEVEL’ portfolio, up 23.98% YTD, dropping to second place and SPTAD’s portfolio, up 23.42% YTD, taking third place.
At Friday's close, 57 of the 62 Contest portfolios were in the green, with 50 beating the NBI and 38 beating the SPSIBI.
The 230 Contest stock picks have an average YTD gain of 8.91% and a median YTD gain of 3.60%.
Below is the Top Ten list. Also below are the Top 5 & Bottom 5 Stocks for the week ranked by % Gained and % Lost YTD. (Prices not converted to US$ in these Tables.)
Portfolio adjustments: None.
(All corrections, especially adjustments for splits & mergers, greatly appreciated.)
Enjoy the first February weekend biotechies!
Peace & good health,
Bulba
