Malaysia: Some currency dealers speculated that to prevent the reserves from depleting, part of the intervention funds could have come from state oil company Petronas.

Petronas, the country's most profitable company, earns its oil revenue in dollars and was rumoured to have converted these to ringgit in large amounts in the recent past to stop drastic slides in the Malaysian currency.
No confirmation from Petronas could be obtained on the speculation.
