Both my kids were (due to French immersion) typically in split classes (two grade levels) throughout elementary.. It was helpful in their cases.. Last year of elementary of course they were upper class men :))

Then again as a group the French Immersion kids typically did much better academically in middle school and high school then the mono linguistic classes.. less so in High school though..
