The difference between foreign direct investment and capital flight . . .

the Chinese government is forcing Chinese insurance firms and other businesses to sell their foreign direct investments and repatriate the money back to Yuan because otherwise the government cannot control the capital flight well enough to prevent a collapse in the value of the Yuan.

Foreign direct investments are something which go two ways, some foreigners investing in your economy and some domestics investing in foreign economies. When these are not in balance you have the sort of capital flight the Chinese government is dealing with right now.
