I agree, that has probably been the case so far.

But the coming disruptive technologies that are, super efficient solar energy and battery storage, intelligence artificial, faster computer and others will completely change the most energy consuming sector of the economy: transportation.

For instance, electric cars will have a shelf life of millions of miles versus a few hundred thousands miles for ICE cars.

Self driving car will eliminate the need for 50%, 75% maybe more of the current global ICE cars cras.

Solar energy will greatly eliminate the need for centralized energy industries as most houses will eventually generate more energy than they need therefore becoming part of a giant decentralized electric grid.

And so on.... I think we are approaching very rapidly a new phase of our evolution.
