It started with Reagan, then Bush43 snatched defeat from the jaws of victory with his ill-advised tax cut and disastrous war in Iraq (unless of course you see Bush as another battle in the Republican war on SS, Medicare and public funding of anything other the military, in which case it was definitely a victory for the GOP). fred.stlouisfed.org The Reagan Admin were the people who began the destruction of our balance sheet and the wholesale war on unions and the middle class. Greenspan was an accomplice with his SS Commission which codified a regressive tax system in a sneaky way, under the guise of "saving" SS. When a Republican official tells you he is going to help, run the other way. The Trump admin is just completing the job begun during the Reagan years.
